Human Cloning – Ethical Issues
OUTLINE of Debate- Presentation (Against Human Cloning)
CLAIM: Human Cloning should not be allowed.
REASON: Because, Cloning humans can cause havoc in the society more than it can create any comfort.
ENTHYMEME: Human Cloning should not be allowed, on any grounds, because it can cause havoc in the society more than it can create any comfort.
WARRANT: Cloning can create a loss of genetic variation that Nature intends, and it can create a “Black Market” of fetuses.
GROUNDS: Cloning Technology is not totally well developed. There are too many losses of fetuses to create one successful clone. Example: Dolly’s creation. In Creating Dolly (the first sheep-clone) 277 eggs were used, 30 started to divide, nine induced pregnancy, and only one survived to term (Info from NASH).
BACKING: Animal cloning researches show that of at least seven species of Mammals, more than 90% of attempts to initiate a clonal pregnancy dos not result in successful live birth. ALSO the benefits of research cloning is highly speculative. There are scientific evidences based on animal studies, that stem cells derived from cloned embryos indeed caused immune reaction and rejected. AND the embryos used in researches for extraction of stem cells, cloned or not, ended in the destruction of these embryos.
MODALITY: All these negatives sides of human cloning are just as possible as the positives sides are. Nothing is proven yet, neither the actual “Organ Donor Clone” or “The Miracle Child Clone”, nor the black market for the fetuses of “Rich and Famous”. But there have been life destructions in the name of stem cell research, cloned embryo or normal. On that grounds, my stand point is more than just PROBABILITY, ITS ALMOST CERTAINTY.
CONCLUSION: Humans are the SUPER-CREATURES of this planet earth. That doesn’t mean that we can meddle with mother nature and do just want we want to do. Normal sexual reproduction for humans is a way of Natural Selection. Messing with the gene-pool to create a new progeny asexually, may as well create a monster. Though in fictions, how the Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park were out to destroy their creators, how the Frankenstein was out to destroy his own creator, we may end up with some “Inhumanly” creatures looking like ourselves. Instead of living with promised better health, we may become victims. Who knows what the Mother Nature might unleash, just as she did with HIV virus!! Its not advisable to play GOD.
On the lighter side, if there is a clone of you, beware! Your spouse might fall for that younger, more attractive, healthier, the other YOU. Take care! Have a good day, everyone!
